Zakres tematów: (tylko po angielsku)

1. Preliminary evaluation. The initial interview. Aphasia, dysartria, TGA – transient global amnestia, conscious disturbance – pathological sleepness, sopor, coma.

2. Examination of the head and cranial nerves.Bulbar and pseudobulbar syndrome. Meningeal syndrome.

3. Motor system. Examinations of the arms and legs. Lesions of the motor system: upper and lower motor neuron lesions. Location of the lesion and the nature of the paralysis. Extrapyramidal syndrome – Parkinson, athetosis, chorea

4. Coordination system. Cerebellar and vestibular syndrome .The examinations of motor coordination. High intracranial pressure syndrome and mechanisms regulating intracranial pressure. Alternating syndromes.

5. Sensation system. Sensation disturbance In cortex, internal capsule, brain stem, spinal cord, lexus, orot, nerv damage. Proprioception. Paresthesia. Neuropathic pain. Polyneuropathy syndrome . Sensation disturbance In peripherial nerves damage. Spinal cord syndromes (tranverse lesion, hemisection, central, anterior, posterior). Spinal cone and cauda equine syndromes.

6. Primary and secondary headache. Migraine, cluster head-aches, tension-type headaches - etiology, pathogenesis and treatment. Post lumba puncture headache.

7.Neuroimaging. MR, CT, SPECT, PET. Carotid and vertebral artery doppler. Transcranial Doppler. Angio - MR, angio-KT, arteriography.

8.Stroke I. Blood supply of the brain, the mechanisms control-ling blood flow (perfusion pressure, cerebral blood flow, self-regulation, chemical and metabolic regulation), penumbra. Pathophys-iology and pathology of stroke. Definition of stroke, epidemiology, risk factors. Causes and symptoms of ischemic strokes, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage. Acute stroke diagnostics and procedures: Stroke unit. Trombolysis and interventions in stroke.

9. Epilepsy and the other seizure states. Classification of epi-lepsy, the causes of epilepsy, seizures morphology. Diversification of epilepsy with other states of unconsciousness. EEG in epilepsy. Evoke potentials.

10. Neuroinfections, Lyme disease, Diagnostics and clinical differentiation of viral, bacterial, TB, prion meningitis. Lumbar puncture and examination of cerebrospinal fluid.Indications and contraindications for lumbar puncture. Normal CSF. CSF in intracranial hemorrhage, meningitis.

11. Parkinson disease – etiology, symptoms, diagnosis. Parkinson syndromes.

12. Dementia – definitions, etiology, symptoms, treatment. Aphasia – definition, diagnosis. Other disorders of higher brain functions.

13. Multiple sclerosis, syringomyelia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

14. Intracranial and spinal cord tumors. definition of brain tu-mor, the distribution of tumors, general and focal symptoms of intracranial tumors, histopathological classification. Me-ningiomas. Brain metastases

15. Life-threatening cases in neurology. Brain trauma. Subdural and epidural hemorrhage. Commotio cerebri.

16. Stroke II. Risk factors of stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, sub-arachnoid hemorrhage. Supplemental diagnostic procedures and treatment. Primary and secondary stroke prophylaxis.

17. Muscle system. Myopathy. Myotony. Myasthenia. Electromyography.

18. Defect of spine. A root compression syndrome. Cervical, lum-bar root compression syndromes- etiology and clinical signs and symptoms. Study of patients with neuralgia: subjective and objective symptoms. Supplemental diagnostic procedures and treatment..

19. Peripheral nervous system The spectrum of innervating and symptoms of paralysis of peripheral nerves: the radial nerve, the ulnar nerve, the median nerve, the femoral nerve, the sciatic nerve, the common peroneal nerve, the tibial nerve. Carpal tunnel syndro-me. Polyneuropathy. CIDP. Guillain-Barre syndrome. Electroneurography.
