Skrócony opis:	(tylko po angielsku) The aim is to present one of the significant currents of recent popular literature in Polish. The type of crime fiction called “retro crime” is known not only in Russia but also in the Baltic States. In each country it has its own style. In general, a characteristic feature of this type of crime fiction is the setting: some cities, presented in a specific time. Authors of Polish retro crime fiction prefer the turn of the 20th century or the interwar period – Poland’s twenty years of independence between the two World Wars, as well as the time of World War II and its aftermath. What is important is that the re-creation of the past is founded on documents, old maps, pictures and photos. Authors often included in the plot allusions to Polish culture, especially – literary culture. Therefore reader receives a wealth of information regarding the past of some Polish cities, the history of Poland, local history (cities), important cultural phenomena and figures important for Polish culture.
Pełny opis:	(tylko po angielsku) Subjects of the lectures: 1. Introduction: new methods of writing about the past. Fundamental points of the conceptions of Hayden White and Frank Ankersmit. 2. Introduction to ‘geopoetics’. Introduction to ‘alternative history’ and ‘counterfactual history’. The structure of retro crime fiction. The presentation of the periods and the cities in which the action takes place. Intriguing riddles, fascinating protagonists, colourful stories, dangerous love affairs, as well as allusions to the history and culture of Poland 3. Presentations and analyses of the following texts: a) Marcin Wroński, Morderstwo pod cenzurą (Lublin, 1930), b) Joanna Jodelka, Polychrome (Poznan), c) Zbigniew Białas, Korzeniec (Sosnowiec, before Word War I), d) Jan Przemsza-Zieliński, Sosnowiec.
