Wymagania wstępne: | (tylko po angielsku) The student must be familiar with the anatomy and physiology of the alimentary tract and abdominal cavity. This is assessed Turing the entrance exam (20 questions). |

Efekty uczenia się - wiedza: | (tylko po angielsku) The student: W1: has knowledge of the principles of referring for and performing basic surgical procedures and invasive diagnostic and treatment procedures, as well as their most common complications - (F K_W03); this outcome is realized both in remote and stationary learning W2: explains the principles of perioperative safety, preparation of patient for surgery, administration of general and local anaesthesia and patient-controlled sedation (F K_W04); this outcome is realized both in remote and stationary learning W3: is familiar with the principles of postoperative treatment, including pain management and therapeutic drug monitoring ; (F K_W05) – this outcome is realized both in remote and stationary learning W4: knows the causes, symptoms, and principles of diagnosis and treatment of the most common diseases requiring surgical intervention;( E K_W01) – this outcome is realized in remote learning W5: enumerates the clinical manifestations of the most common diseases of individual organs and systems, metabolic diseases, and water-electrolyte and acid-base imbalance ; (C K_W33) – this outcome is realized in remote learning |
Efekty uczenia się - umiejętności: | (tylko po angielsku) The student: U1: is able to perform a full and targeted physical examination of an adult patient (E K_U03) – this outcome is realized both in remote and stationary learning U2: Knows how to perform basic medical procedures, including: 1) taking temperature (core and peripheral) and pulse, non-invasive pressure measurement, 2) monitoring vital signs using a cardiac monitor, pulse oximeter, 3) spirometry testing, oxygen therapy, adjuvant and mechanical ventilation, 4) oropharyngeal airway insertion, 5) intravascular, intramuscular and subcutaneous injection, peripheral venous cannulation, peripheral blood draw, blood culture draw, arterial blood draw, arterialised capillary blood draw, 6) nasal, pharyngeal and skin swabbing, 7) urinary catheterisation in men and women, gastric probing, gastric lavage, enema, 8) standard resting electrocardiogram with interpretation, electrical cardioversion, defibrillation, 9) basic strip tests and blood glucose level tests ; (E K_U29) U3: is able to manage the patient’s medical records (E K_U38) U4: follows the principles of asepsis and antisepsis;( F K_U03) U5: is able to obtain peripheral venous access;( F K_U05) U6: : knows how to examine the breasts, lymph nodes and thyroid gland, examine the abdominal cavity for signs of acute abdomen, and perform a digital rectal examination ( F K_U06) |

(tylko po angielsku) Introduction to Surgery is designer to familiarize the students with the basic tenets of surgery and the major differences between surgical and conservative medicine. The students get acquainted with the practical application of the rules of aseptic and antiseptic technique during tutorials in the surgical suite. They learn the basics of record – keeping, surgical examination and basic surgical skills. |

(tylko po angielsku) The objective of the lectures is to convey to the students the basic concepts of general surgery, patient preparation for burgery, perioperative patient management, and the basics of anaesthesia and pain control . The students are acquainted with the basics of wound healing, surgical instruments and the methods for the prevention and treatment of infection. Other topics covered include: acute abdomen, bleeding, trauma, including burns, as well as the basics of endoscopy and laparoscopy. During the tutorials the students learn practical skills covewring patient examination, small surgical procedures (suture placement and removal, catheterization and others listed in the practical skills section). During tutorials in the surgical suite, the students are acquainted with the rules of asepsis and antisepsis technique, basic surgical instruments and techniques. |
