Workload associated with classes requiring direct participation of academic teachers amounts to 13 hours, corresponding to 0,5 ECTS points.

- preparation for the classes (reading indicated literature and preparing reports): 2 hours

1. Knows the methods for assessing the health status of an individual and a population, different classification systems of diseases and medical procedures. (G.W1)

2. Knows the concept of public health, its aims and objectives, and the structure and organisation of the healthcare system at the national and global level, as well as the impact of economic conditions on the possibilities of health protection. (G.W4)

3. Knows the basic legal regulations pertaining to the organisation and financing of health care, national health insurance, and the principles of organisation of healthcare entities. (G.W6)

The aim of this subject is to acquaint students with the principles underlying preventive activities of health care service, health status evaluation and monitoring in an individual and a population, and with options for using epidemiological data for evaluation and planning of medical services. Presentations for students will concern issues related to the operational strategy in the public health area, health care systems and the principal problems of public health in Poland and globally.

Lectures aim at acquainting students with methods for assessment of a health status and health care needs of a population, determining needs of health care systems, and promoting the health of the population.

1. Public health - basic terms and definitions, subject, position in medicine, ‘health’ as a term, conditions determining the health status. Organization of the healthcare system.

2. The health of children and young people. Adult public health. Public health and ageing.

3. Globalisation – challenges and threats to public health.

Seminars develop skills in the use of epidemiological, demographic and statistical materials in an analysis of the population health status.

1. Measures of a population health status. Epidemiological supervision of infectious diseases. Prevention programs. Vaccinations.

2. Evidence-based practice and an approach to program planning and

evaluation for public health interventions. Health promotion.

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

Assessment methods:

Getting the credit requires:

- active involve in classes,

- theoretical preparation and correct performance of data analyses at classes with a written report. A report should be delivered to a teacher immediately or within a week (missing the one-week deadline results in downgrading the note by a 0.5 grade);

- extended observation of social competences caring out during classes (0-10 points, passing the > 50%).

- absences must be justified and graded orally or in written form. Student should make up missing classes in a form and date appointed by coordinator of the course.

- final credit takes place after all lectures and seminars. The final credit is carried out in the form of a written test (30MCQ) covering of the lectures and seminars.

Assessment criteria:

55.0-68.0% - pass

68.1-76.0% - pass +

76.1-84.0% - above average

84.1-92.0% - above average +

92.1-100% - excellent
