U1: is able to gain and deepen their knowledge and develop their research skills in the field of cultural studies (K_U08).

U2: displays argumentation skills and is able to refer to scholars’ opinions as well as to draw conclusions in the field of cultural studies (K_U16).

U3: is able to conduct a preliminary search of library holdings, use databases and the Internet, prepare a list of references, add notes with due care as to the copyright, format documents using a word processor and make a presentation in the field of cultural studies (K_U17).

The seminar explores selected tendencies in the Anglophone cultures (particularly in popular culture), introducing the concepts and theories employed in this field of study.

The seminar examines the methods of studying culture and the selected aspects of popular culture in Anglophone countries. The students learn how to analyse cultural artefacts, read the critical texts on Anglophone cultures and apply acquired skills and knowledge in practice. The seminar covers the following aspects and phenomena: popular fiction, visual culture, popular music, subculture and counterculture as well as fan fiction.

The course will be taught via online methods and is accompanied by a Moodle course available here: https://moodle.umk.pl/WHUM/course/view.php?id=1662. The Microsoft Teams group details will be sent to participants by e-mail and made available on the Moodle.

The seminar examines the methods of studying culture and the selected aspects of popular culture in Anglophone countries. The students learn how to analyse cultural artefacts, read the critical texts on Anglophone cultures and apply acquired skills and knowledge in practice. The seminar covers the following aspects and phenomena: popular fiction, visual culture, popular music, subculture and counterculture as well as fan fiction.

The seminar will be taught via online methods and is accompanied by a Moodle course in which students will find the excerpts from the theoretical texts for reading, examples, as well as discussion questions (to be used when preparing for the synchronous online meetings - theory meetings). Every second week during the practical classes - students' presentations will be posted on the Moodle accompanied by assignments and shared documents.
