The student

U1: is able to search for, analyse and interpret information from various sources, applying methods of literary and cultural studies and using advanced technologies in their research (K_U01, K_U04).

U2: is able to select, apply and adjust research methods and tools to address both typical and non-typical research problems (K_U02).

U3: is able to apply advanced theoretical perspectives and paradigms pertaining to literary and cultural studies and use their knowledge to formulate and test hypotheses concerning research problems (K_U07).

U4: is able to undertake autonomous tasks in the field of cultural and literary studies, taking into account the objectives and instructions formulated by their academic supervisors (K_U08).

U5: is able to gain and deepen their knowledge in the field of cultural and literary studies and develop their research skills on their own (K_U11).

U6: is able to critically analyse and interpret various texts, use specialist terminology and justify the selected methodology in the field of cultural studies (K_U13).

U7: is able to formulate critical opinions about cultural artefacts on the basis of academic knowledge and experience, and to present their critical opinions in various forms and media(K_U15).

The student

U1: is able to integrate the knowledge obtained in the process of participating in other classes and developed, in specific directions, in his or her individual project containing analyses and interpetations (K_U01, K_U13);

U2: is able to analyse selected literary and cultural phenomena within textual and editorial scholarship and to offer his or her interpretations supported with appropriate examples (K_U02, K_U07);

U3: is able to autonomously complete his or her MA dissertation in accordance with the criterion of academic relevance and language-specific requirements (K_U08, K_U11).

U4: The student applies the supervisor's guidelines regarding the language and structure of the thesis to specific cases, and introduces corrections unassisted. (K_U07)

U7: The student uses correct academic English, creating coherent, well-organized stretches of text with the use of well-documented sources. (K_U11, K_U15, K_U18)

U10: The student finds bibliographic data and prepares a bibliography section compliant with required standards, also for digital and audiovisual sources. (K_U14)

U2: The student can undertake autonomous tasks, taking into account the objectives and instructions formulated by their academic supervisor. The student can critically analyse and interpret various texts, use specialist terminology and justify the selected methodology (K_U07, K_U10)

U3: is able to conduct a search of library holdings, use databases and the Internet, prepare a list of references, add notes with due care as to the copyright, format documents using a word processor and make a presentation (K_U14)

MA seminar is a course preparing students to write their master's theses in individually selected fields of research. Students work towards completing their MA theses under individual supervision of their instructors.

The final semester of the MA seminar is devoted to the continuation of the research on the practical part and the completion of practical chapters. Students should be able to submit the final version of MA theses at the end of the course and be ready to take the final exam.

The aim of the MA seminar in the fourth semester is to facilitate completion of individual MA projects. MA SEMINAR IN LITERARY AND CULTURAL STUDIES (dr hab. Edyta Lorek-Jezińska, prof UMK)

Assessment methods:

- regular contact with the supervisor, systematic work on the chapters, timely submission of fragments of MA thesis, respecting copyrights, the implementation of the suggested corrections and changes -W1-4, U1-7, K1

- the academic level of the completed thesis -W1-4, U1-7, K1

Assessment criteria:

The final mark consists of:

- the mark for the timely submission of chapters and the final version, regular contact with the tutor, implementation of comments (50% of the final grade)

- the assessment of the academic level of the thesis (50% of the final grade)

The final grade will be calculated on the basis of the complete MA dissertation, accepted by the superviser and written in accordance with the following requirements:

- Academic quality of the research

- Academic English (C1+ level)
