W1: The graduate has in-depth knowledge of selected aspects of translation studies, the discipline's ongoing development and its research-related terminology (K_W06; K_W08; K_W11).

W3: The student is aware of the practical and professional context of translation and takes it into account while researching their MA topic (K_W13)

MA SEMINAR IN TRANSLATION STUDIES (dr Dorota Guttfeld)


U1: The graduate is able to search for, analyse, evaluate and apply information using various sources and to formulate critical opinions based thereon, to undertake autonomous tasks and to gain and deepen their knowledge in the field of translation studies and related disciplines within Humanities, also developing their research skills on their own, when working on their MA thesis (K_U01, K_U02, K_U03, K_U08).

U2: The graduate displays advanced argumentation skills in composing written works, drawing conclusions and preparing summaries as well as producing and delivering texts orally in English, using a variety of sources, theoretical approaches, specialist terminology and relevant methods in the field of cultural studies. (K_U11,K_U13).

U3: The graduate is able to conduct a preliminary search of library holdings, use databases and the Internet, prepare a list of references, add notes with due care as to the copyright, format documents using a word processor and make a presentation in the process of researching and writing their MA thesis in the field of cultural studies (K_U04).

U1: The student is able to search for, analyse, select, interpret and use information from various reliable sources, using advanced technologies in their research (K_U01, K_U04).


U2: The student is able to select, apply and adjust research methods and tools to address both typical and non-typical research problems and react to unpredictable circumstances (K_U02, K_U03).


U3: The student is able to undertake autonomous tasks in the field of cultural and literary studies, taking into account the objectives and instructions formulated by their academic supervisors (K_U08).


U4: The student is able to gain and deepen their knowledge in the field of cultural and literary studies and develop their research skills on their own (K_U11).


U5: The student is able to critically analyse and interpret various texts, use specialist terminology and justify the selected methodology in the field of cultural studies (K_U13).

The aim of the MA seminar is to assist students in the process of researching and writing their MA theses.

MA SEMINAR IN TRANSLATION STUDIES (dr Dorota Guttfeld),

The third semester of the MA seminar in translation studies is devoted to the continuation of the research on the theoretical chapter, the choice of research methods and theories and the completion of the first chapter. Students will also continue their research on the practical chapters and write the draft version of the first practical chapter.

The aim of the MA seminar is to guide the students through the process of writing and editing individual MA projects as well as developing their research interests and skills. Students complete the first chapter and submit a part of the second chapter of their theses in the first semester

Literatura:

The reading list individually adjusted to the research methods relevant to the field covered by students’ dissertations.

Assessment criteria:

1) participation

- regular contact with the supervisor, participation in online classes (10%)

- constructive participation in discussions and feedback following other students' presentations (10%)

2) progress towards the MA thesis

- systematic work on the chapters, timely submission of fragments of MA thesis, implementing suggested corrections and changes (20%)

- academic level of the theoretical part (30%)

3) presentation

- quality of presentation, outlining preliminary results in preparation for the practical part (30%)

Assessment methods:

- regular contact with the supervisor, systematic work on the chapters, timely submission of fragments of MA thesis respecting copyrights, according to the schedule, the implementation of suggested revisions and changes - W1, U1, U2, U3, U5, K1

- the academic level of the theoretical part (final version) and the practical chapter (first draft) - W1, W2, U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, K1

Assessment criteria:

The final mark consists of:

- the mark for the timely submission of chapters, regular contact with the tutor, and implementation of comments (40% of the final grade)

- in-class presentation of students’ work (10% of the final grade)

- the assessment of the academic level of the chapters (50% of the final grade)
