Pełny opis: (tylko po angielsku)

The course focuses on discussing challenges and problems encountered in the translation process. The focus is laid on the development of translation skills viewed as the ability to transfer the message contained in the source language into the target language together with all linguistic and extralinguistic aspects. Another important factor is to increase the students' awareness as to the significance of the extralinguistic knowledge being crucial for translation performance.

The objective is the analysis of and translation of a variety of non-literary and literary texts. Texts are translated by students individually and in teams, and translations performed are discussed. In-class translation tasks are categorised into such areas as, for instance, culture-specific items, proper names, terms related to an array of professional fields, etc. in order to illustrate ways in which translators can deal with challenges and problems they face in their work.
