Efekty uczenia się - umiejętności: | The student U1: is able to analyse, evaluate, select, and apply information using various sources and to formulate critical opinions on works of literature and culture from editorial perspectives based on such sources (K_U08, K_U16) U2: is able to recognise the genres and conventions of place the analysed works of literature and culture in a specific editorial context (K_U10) U3: is able to conduct a preliminary search of library holdings and contribute to a selected subject within literature, culture and editing studies (K_U17). |

During the seminar, selected works of literature and culture will be analysed and interpreted from not only theoretical and literary perspectives but also with the application of editorial approaches and practices. Examples of poems, novels, short stories and plays, as well as their adaptations and translations will be discussed in the context of the connection between literature, culture, and editing. |

Detailed syllabus: • Introduction, discussion on the content, effects, validation and assessment procedures • Editorial approaches to literature and culture (“Anglo-American Editorial Theory” by Kathryn Sutherland) • Textual approaches to literature and culture (“What Is Textual Scholarship?” by David Greetham and “Some Non-textual Uses of Books” by Rowan Watson) • Introduction to Paratext (“Foreword” by Richard Macksey and “Introduction” by Gérard Genette – from Paratexts: Thresholds of Interpretation) • The significance of editorial form and its continuity (Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne) • Unpublished literature: interpreting the work in the original editorial form (The Jug of Sorrow by Ryan) • Individual assignment 1 • Editing solutions in film: Dunkirk • The possibilities for editorial revisions of fiction (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne) • Individual assignment 2 |
