U1: The student critically analyses a newspaper or a magazine and a press article concerning Anglophone culture by means of the knowledge gained on on his/her own (K_U20, K_U21)

U2: The student understands longer statements of the teacher on the development of the Anglophone press; the student understands the content of the audiovisual materials concerning the development of the Anglophone press (K_U19)

K1: The student understands and evaluates the significance and popularity of a selected newspaper or magazine in the context of the development of the Anglophone press; the student offers his/her critical analysis of these (K_K05, K_K06)

Skrócony opis:

The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge of the press development and history in English-speaking countries.

Pełny opis:

The course comprises selected aspects of the history of the Anglophone magazines and newspapers. An outline of press, printing and publishing will be demonstrated, and selected major titles of American and British newspapers and magazines will be analysed through the prism of culture and society development, as well as politics and economy.

- Introduction and requirements; documentary screening (part 1): The Fourth Estate (2015) – 1/15

- The Fourth Estate (part 2) - a discussion; history of the press – 2-3/15

- History of the press in Great Britain and the United States – 4-5/15

- Selected approaches in the analysis of newspapers and magazines – 6-11/15

- Conclusion – 12-13/15

- Final assignment – 14-15/15
