The course under the label Issues of Meaning Construction and Interpretation in Pragmatics aims to present the dimensions of meaning construction in intesubjective and contextual dimensions, and provide the students with analytical skills as well as practical skills in a creative approach to the process of both interpretation and construction of semiotic/linguistic formations in interpersonal space (including public space). |

• Language as a semiotic system • The relations between structure vs. function in language. • Structural levels of linguistic organization. • The semantics v. pragmatics distinction. • Language Variation: regional, social, stylistic, etc. • Inferential processes: entailments, presuppositions, conversational implicatures. • The Speech Act Theory (typology and felicity conditions). • The Co-operation Principle and Conversational Maxims. • The Relevance Theory. Theories regarding directness and politeness. • Linguistic Pragmatics II (extension based on Meaning in Interaction by J.
