(tylko po angielsku) The lecture examines selected tendencies in popular culture in the English-speaking countries and introduces the concepts and theories employed in the study of popular culture. |

(tylko po angielsku) The lecture examines selected tendencies in popular culture in the English-speaking countries and introduces the concepts and theories employed in the study of popular culture. In the first semester the course examines the concept of popular culture and its different forms referring to selected examples in Anglophone cultures, such as: popular fiction, popular music, subculture, counterculture and video culture (e.g. video clips). In the second semester the course focuses on such phenomena as fan fiction and urban legends, as well as, more traditional categories, such as television series, comedy series and popular theatre. Referring to specific examples, the course also examines the broader context of the viewer's/spectator's participation in creating and interpreting culture. |
