A series of classes will present basic problems in the practice of English language teaching and will focus on main approaches and methods of foreign language teaching. The aim is to prepare students for teaching English as a foreign language. |

Content distribution (winter semester): - Why do we learn foreign languages? basic terms in foreign language teaching; group dynamics and interactive tasks (ice-breakers) - Theories of language learning: behaviourism, mentalism; curriculum, the construction of curriculum and core curriculum, - Theories of learning: constructivism and autonomy; planning a lesson of English, - Methods of foreign language teaching: grammar-translation method, Audiolingual method; structured observation of methods, discussion of observations, - Methods of foreign language teaching: TPR - teaching children; practical techniques of teaching children, preparing TPR activities - Humanistic approach in teaching English; preparing activities based on the humanistic approach; the language of instruction, - Communicative Language Teaching; CLT in practice: increasing classroom interaction - Revision: methods of English language teaching; the role of questions in a lesson - Teaching teenagers and adults; who are our students? (multilevel classes) - Teaching foreign languages across various proficiency levels; class management: gestures and verbal language - Individual learner differences; microteaching 1 - 5 minute activities - Evaluation of teaching materials; microteaching 2 - based on holiday lesson - Revision; a practical test - Storytelling - If possible a microlesson with genuine school children will be arranged Content distribution (summer semester): - Teaching vocabulary - Teaching grammar - Teaching pronunciation - teaching writing - Teaching listening - Teaching reading - Teaching speaking - Teaching techniques - Testing and evaluating - If possible a microlesson with genuine school children will be arranged |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The final grade will be based on the basis of two pillars (winter and summer semester): - practical test (W1, U1, U2, K2, K3) - final theoretical test (W1, U1, U2, U3, K1, K2, K3) Assessment criteria: practical test (50 %) test on theory (50%) 60%-71% = 3. 72%-76% = 3+ 77%-84% = 4. 85%-90% = 4+ 91%-100% = 5 In order to pass the course a student has to attend the classes regularly apart from fulfilling the requirements presented above. In case of missing classes a student is obliged to excuse their absence immediately. |
