Stone Age seafaring: colonizaction, migration and early maritime activities

Student:

– W1: has basic/advanced knowledge of early maritime activity of modern humans

– W2: knows/ possesses knowledge of archaeological evidence for sea crossing in the Lower Paleolithic

– W3: is familiar with the most important archaeological sites for reconstruction early seafaring.

Student:

– U1: is able to analyse an early maritime activity of modern humans;

– U2: can analyse archaeological evidence important for reconstruction of early boats.

Student:

– K1: is aware of responsibility for protection of underwater heritage;

– K2: understands the need for European cooperation

– K3: is sensitive for social cooperation

– K4: identifies/ accepts/ recognizes value of heritage.

The subject will deal with aspect of early maritime activity of human beings, starting from first sea-crossings in the Paleolithic, that allowed broad expansion of homo. It will also cover topics of rapid expansion of first farmers and development of complex system of long-distance exchange of bronzes and other prestige objects.

Students will know about the main changes in maritime and inland water crossing from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age; students will know all possible archaeological sources confirming early maritime crossings and activities. Topics: early migrations of Hominids; maritime expansion of Modern Humans; maritime exchange of obsidian; Neolithic seafarers; maritime activity in the Bronze Age.
