Efekty uczenia się - wiedza: | (tylko po angielsku) Student W1: has basic knowledge of political history of the Byzantine Empire from 330 A.D. to 1453 A.D., W2: possesses knowledge about modes of running Roman external policy in the different historical periods ( late antiquity, medieval period, early moden ages) W3: is familiar with basic knowledge about changes in the structure of the eastern Roman society and state. |
Efekty uczenia się - umiejętności: | (tylko po angielsku) Student U1: is able to enumerate byzantine dynasties from the Constantinian to Palaologian dynasty and is familiar with the names of the most important esarern Roman Emperors from 330 A.D. to 1453 A.D. Is able to enumerate the main reasons for the collapse of the Byzantine Empire in the year 1453. U2: is capable to explain main changes in territorial shape of the Byzantine Empire U3: has basic skills in enumerating the ideal virtues of the Byzantine Emperor U4: can explain changes in the administrative structure and officialdom of the Byzantine Empire from the late Antiquity to the early modern time |

(tylko po angielsku) Student receives an overview on the history of the Byzantine Empire from its beginning to the end of the Palaologian dynasty. The lecture ends with the fall of Constantinople in 1453. |

(tylko po angielsku) In course of this lecture the students receive a overwiew of political history of the eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire. I will start from the reign of the Emperor Diocletian, the creator of a political system (dominate) which prevail in the Byzantine era. Further students will deal with an overview of political history of Byzantium from the Late Roman Empire to the end of dynasty of Palaiologoi. During the lectures I will focus on the political, social and administrative history of Byzantium. List of topics: - Diocletian and Tetrarchy - The Fourth Century: from Constantine the Great to Theodosius I - Roman Empire and its enemies. The survival of the Eastern Empire - The Empire of Justinian and his successors - The Administration - The Society - The Roman Army : Organisation and Structure - The “dark ages” of Byzantium - The ruling of Macedonian Dynasty: the peak of Byzantine power -The time of Comnenid - The 4th Crusade, the Fall of Constantinople and its consequences. Greek and Latin successor states. -Byzantium under the rule of Palaiologian emperors. The sack of Constantinople in 1453 |
