(tylko po angielsku) This course aims to introduce students to the European art and architecture of the Early Modern era (c. 1400 – 1750). It will provide an overview of the cultural, iconographic and stylistic concerns of art from the renaissance and baroque periods. It will also familiarize students with a range of works of art and artists from these periods. A particular emphasis will be given to the phenomenon of artistic exchange that shaped European art and architecture. Art and architecture in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its manifold relations with Europe will be given a special attention. |

(tylko po angielsku) This course aims to introduce students to the European art and architecture of the Early Modern era (c. 1400 – 1750). It will provide an overview of the cultural, iconographic and stylistic concerns of art from the renaissance and baroque periods. It will also familiarize students with a range of works of art and artists from these periods. A particular emphasis will be given to the phenomenon of artistic exchange that shaped the European artistic landscape. Art and architecture in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its manifold relations with Europe will be given a special attention. The curse will provide students with detailed information on a wide range of works of European art and architecture. It will also address a variety of more general questions, such as artistic and cultural exchange in Early Modern Europe, artist migration, the problem of center and periphery in Early Modern Europe, or the dissemination of the all’antiqua artistic language. The subject discussed in the first semester will include: - art and architecture in the fifteenth and early sixteenth century Italy, with particular emphasis given to studies of the antiquities - the northern renaissance and the relation between Italy and the north in the fifteenth and the early sixteenth centuries - the relations between various artistic centres in the sixteenth century Europe - the dissemination of the all’antiqua artistic language in sixteenth century Europe - artist migration in sixteenth century Europe - the influence of the Reformation on artistic relations in Europe - courts and cities as centres of the artistic exchange in fifteenth and sixteenth century Europe - the importance of dynastic ties for artistic exchange |
