Skrócony opis:

Diego Velázquez (Sevilla 1599 – 1660 Madrid): his paintings and Italian Art.

The lectures focus on Diego Velázquez’s two journeys to Italy (1629-1631 and 1649-1651).

His works seem to demonstrate intensive imitation and emulation of classical Antiquity, Italian High Renaissance and contemporary early Baroque. And yet, just before his first travel to Italy he manifest a certain knowledge of Italian art - and he shows a certain ironic view on his visual sources. During and around the second journey he demonstrates his sovereign anwser to the Italian eloquence of visual narration.

Pełny opis:

The lectures will confront Diego Velázquez’s paintings before, during and after his two journeys to Italy (1629-1631 and 1649-1651) with the works he studied in Italy and in Spain. They will discuss the artistic means and solutions.

The lectures are based on the academic teacher’s own research and scholarship.
