Metody dydaktyczne:

Lectures:

- informative lecture;

- problem lecture;

- conversation lecture;

- didactic discussion.

Skrócony opis:

The aim of the lectures is for students to obtain knowledge of mechanism of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in normal and pathological conditions. Since, fetus development, wound healing, chronic complication of diabetes or tumors growth and invasion could not exist without new blood vessels network.

Pełny opis:

The main task of the lectures is to familiarize students with the detailed mechanisms of blood vessels formation via vasculogenesis (de novo blood vessel generation from vascular progenitor cells) and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels via extension or remodeling from existing capillaries). Formation of new blood vessels occurs in many physiological states (during development of the embryo, cycling changes of the female reproductive tract), as well as in pathological processes (such as diabetic retinopathy and wound healing). Angiogenesis has been shown to be related to tumor formation, prognosis, and response to treatment in many tumor types. Intratumoral microvessels can be related to tumor behavior or hormone secretion in different endocrine tumors.

Lectures (each topic is organized on 4 academic hours):

1. Elements regulating angiogenesis;

2. The origin and function of circulating endothelial progenitor cells;

3. The role of angiogenesis in physiological processes especially during embryo development;

4. Vasculo- and angiogenesis in tumor growth and invasion;

5. Vasculo- and angiogenesis in cardiometabolic diseases.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Written credit (W1, W2, W3, W4, U1, U2, U3, K1): 30 test questions based solely on the content of the lectures.

The points obtained are converted into marks according to the following scale:
