The course acquaints students with theory and practice concerning psychosomatic disorders, their causes (highlighting stress), symptoms and methods of prevention and coping by means of, among others, case presentation. |

Focusing on the role of stress in everyday life, the course is covers the following topics: • short history of basic theories concerning the psychosomatic symptoms, from Sigmund Freud to functional Magnetic Resonance • definition of health according to the World Health Organization and the meaning of a holistic approach towards the link between the brain and the mind • contemporary ideas concerning the nomenclature of stress-related diseases based on ICD-10 and DSM-V • essential symptoms and disturbances that occur in stressed people during their everyday activities • simple methods to establish a diagnosis of psychosomatic problems • the role of relaxation techniques in the form of meditation in the process of coping the stressful situations • short presentation of the most commonly used alternative and complementary methods |

Efekty uczenia się: |
W1: Students understand the basic information about reasons why stress is a permanent factor in life. Participants will be able to interpret the basic symptoms of stress-related diseases and will learn basic relaxation techniques to reduce the level of mental tension. W2: Students know the wide spectrum of the knowledge and skills concerning somatisation and they understand the necessity of lifelong learning processes. K1: Students are fully aware of basic symptoms concerning psychosomatic diseases and how to prevent their dangerous consequences. U1: Students are able to recognize and describe basic symptoms that are present in people with high risk of stress. Participants are able to differentiate the pathological and abnormal body reactions from normal physiological human functions. U2. Students are able to analyze the data which are derived from different sources of medical examinations. They are able to find these which are related to stress and permanent emotional tension. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The participants of the course have to be present during classes and take active part in discussion about basic topics. Afterwards they are obliged to pass a final test to prove that they possess a proper level of knowledge and skills. |
