Efekty uczenia się - kompetencje społeczne: | (tylko po angielsku) Student K1: understands the significance of the right to freedom of speech and freedom of the media; K2: understands that both rights must be balanced against other values, for example against the right to human dignity of all individuals. K3: is aware that the rights under discussion have developed, first and foremost, in the Western world, where the approach toward them different than elsewhere; K4: can cooperate with students of various cultural backgrounds. |

(tylko po angielsku) The course is supposed to get participants acquainted with the problem signalled in its name. Special emphasis will be given to the role of free speech and freedom of the media amongst other human values. |

The idea of freedom of speech in eighteenth-nineteenth century Europe and America. 4. John Stuart Mill's conception of freedom of speech. 5. Oliver W. Holmes, Louis Brandeis: freedom of speech in the US Supreme Court. 6. The absolutist view of freedom of speech in the United States. 7. Theories of freedom of speech in the US Supreme Court's case-law. 8. The American Civil Liberties Union and the struggle for free speech in the USA. 9. Freedom of opinion in the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. 10. Freedom of opinion in the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, cont. 11.
