This course analyses social, symbolic, and political power mechanisms in the media dimension. These categories are discussed as an example of the influential journalists and media owners in the XX and XXI centuries who influenced people, groups, and all societies who changed the world in a particular dimension. Consequently, students will analyse several tools/instruments/methods of influence on public opinion. |

Steve Jobs – between perfectionism and artistry, think different, charismatic leader 6. Bill Gates – pragmatic visionary, philanthropy as a way to change the world 7. Mark Zuckerberg – global phenomenon, power-knowledge, hate speech and fake news 8. Oriana Fallaci – interpretative journalism, between journalism and literacy, journalism involved 9. Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
GRADING: • Attendance – you may skip two meetings without consequences. You may also miss the next three meetings but must make up for consultations. You have to read obligatory literature, prepare a draft (before consultations), and answer my questions; • Active participation in discussion – you must be familiar with assigned readings and participate in the debate. Max. 2 points every meeting. • Presentation – everyone has to prepare a short presentation (15 minutes) that will focus on a journalist or media owner who (in personal opinion) could be called “powerful”. After the presentation, you have to lead the discussion (lower limit of 10 minutes), engage your colleagues, and focus on the presentation’s topic. Max. 30 points. fail – (0-49,3%) satisfactory – (50,7%-59,4%) satisfactory plus – (60,9%-69,6%) good – (71%-79,7%) good plus – (81,2%-89,8%) very good – (91,3%-100%) |
