Skrócony opis: |
The course familiarizes students with the principles of planning, conducting, and presenting their own research based on current theoretical and empirical approaches applied to investigate English as a lingua franca (ELF). |
Pełny opis: |
In the first part of the course, students are introduced to key concepts and selected theoretical perspectives that may underpin their own (ELF) explorations as well as basic methods of collecting and analyzing corpus (ELF) data. More specifically, students are familiarized with the principles of: - exploring (ELF) data from a deficient, different, emergent, or emerging perspective; - creating and describing (ELF) corpora for their own research purposes; - analyzing (ELF) data of varying complexity, i.e. ranging from words to discourse genres; - conducting a qualitative, quantitative or mixed corpus-based study and using freely available tools for this purpose; - summarizing and presenting key assumptions of their own study. In the second part of the course, students develop their knowledge and skills facilitating their own corpus-based research through several practical tasks. |
