Efekty uczenia się - umiejętności: | The student U1: is able to search for, select and analyse information at C1 level coming from various sources and document their use according to the KFA guidelines for creating a BA text (K_U01, K_U08, K_U14) U2: can create lists of references and footnotes with due care as to the copyright and ethical use of sources and can create adequately structured and formatted formal long academic texts at C1 level based on sources, following the departmental BA stylesheet guidelines and the teacher’s suggestions (K_U17) U3: is able to present a critical analysis and interpretation of various texts in the form of a long written work at C1 level, with the use of selected theoretical approaches and scientific sources (K_U12, K_U14) |

The course develops students’ academic writing skills on C1 level and focuses on the skills required to write a BA thesis. |

The course develops students’ academic writing skills on C1 level and focuses on the skills required to write a BA thesis. Throughout the summer semester, paraphrasing, summarising, citing, and referencing will be practised in longer texts, with particular attention paid to the ability to work with academic sources and to document their use in accordance with the Department of English stylesheet. Students will learn how to evaluate and revise their own work and that of their peers (peer-assessment and self-assessment) to improve language accuracy with regard to advanced grammar, lexis and academic register; they will work on texts individually and in groups to improve their clarity and coherence. Content distribution: - argumentation in longer academic texts (logic of the argument and coherence of the text) - vocabulary and language structures used in academic texts (collocations, hedging, avoiding linguistic vagueness), - use of punctuation, - revision and correction of BA excerpts (self-correction and peer-correction), - editing the BA thesis (Department of English BA stylesheet), - appropriate use of sources in longer texts. |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
Observation of participation documented in an activity log (K1, K2, U3) Mid-semester and final writing assignment (W1, U1, U2, U3) Academic Writing course grades will be given in reference to the following criteria: fail – 0 – 59% satisfatory - 60 – 69% satisfactory plus - 70 – 75% good - 76 – 85% good plus - 86 – 90% very good - 91 – 100% Instructors are authorized to refuse credit when the student’s absenteeism rate is around 50%. Timely completion of assigned tasks is obligatory. In the case of assignments submitted after the deadline or re-submitted, the grade is lowered. |
