W1: has advanced knowledge of the English language used in editing and typography (K_W11)

W2: possesses knowledge of the problems pertaining to literary studies and editorial research (K_W08).

U1: can typeset a literary book-form text ready for publication, with the proper care of source use, editing and typography, and by means of DTP software (K_U04).

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge of typography (its basics, history and current use) and skills in editing English texts.

The course comprises exercises which aim at gaining knowledge and skills concerning the use of editing and typography in English texts. In the first semester, subjects comprise a discussion of various kinds of text publications, the analysis and edition of a book structure and layout, digital publications, font types, and the connection between editing and typography.

Assessment criteria:

fail – 0-59 %

satisfactory – 60-69 %

satisfactory plus – 70-75 %

Students must attend all course meetings. Each failure to participate in a class has to be excused in the first week after the class missed. The final grade percentage will be reduced for every unexcused absence.
