W1 - has in-depth and systematized knowledge of research-related terminology and methodology applied in the study of drama (K_W07).

W2 - has in-depth and systematized knowledge on selected aspects of British and American drama (K_W09)

Efekty uczenia się - umiejętności:

U1 - is able to use various communication channels and new technologies to carry out his or her research on drama and present its results in English (K_U04).

U2 - is able to show others the reasons for and means of life-long learning with reference to Anglophone drama (K_U10).

U3 - is able to critically analyse and interpret various cultural texts, use specialist terminology and justify the selected methodology in the field of drama studies (K_U13).

U4 - is able to formulate critical opinions about cultural artefacts, such as theatre plays, on the basis of academic knowledge and experience. The student is able to present their critical opinions in various forms and media. (K_U15).

The course offers an insight into the problems addressed by contemporary British, American and Canadian women playwrights.

Pełny opis: (tylko po angielsku)

The seminar focuses on the cultural representations of identity, discrimination and marginalisation in contemporary Anglophone drama by women playwrights. It tries to approach drama and theatre as a significant platform for negotiating and discussing controversial issues. The topics addressed during the seminar include the representations of motherhood, the history of witch­hunts, madness, disability, race as well as debates on violence and controversies over prostitution and pornography. Shelagh Delaney, Caryl Churchill, Sarah Kane, Sarah Daniels, Bryony Lavery, Timberlake Wertenbaker, Paula Vogel, Susan Nussbaum, Kay Adshead and Kim Morrissey are among the authors whose texts will be studied during the course. The learning outcomes include students’ increased awareness of the cultural significance of contemporary drama by women, students’ familiarity with critical approaches to the problems discussed therein as well as the ability to analyse and formulate critical opinions about the issues discussed in drama by women playwrights.
