(tylko po angielsku) The course aims at broadening the students knowledge and comprehension of the nature of horror fiction texts. The discussion will revolve around the characteristic features of horror texts, as well as the function and role of horror fiction in society. The expectations and the reception of classic tropes and themes by the readers will also be analyzed. Warning: due to the nature of the genre, the examined texts may include disturbing content, or depictions of physical or sexual violence. The students will be graded according to their participation in class and realisation of assigned tasks and a final project. The course is supplemented by a Moodle course (which in case of e-learning will become the primary way of conducting classes: https://moodle.umk.pl/WHUM/course/view.php?id=1629). |

(tylko po angielsku) The course aims at broadening the students knowledge and comprehension of the nature of horror fiction texts. The discussion will revolve around the characteristic features of horror texts, as well as the function and role of horror fiction in society. The expectations and the reception of classic tropes and themes by the readers will also be analysed. The thematic blocks of the course include: →traditional horror narratives (ghost, vampires, the undead, and cosmic horror) →new horror narratives related to contemporary fears and anxieties (society, social media, ageing and ethics) Warning: due to the nature of the genre, the examined texts may include disturbing content, or depictions of physical or sexual violence. |
