Composition of English texts

Passing grade in the Composition of English Texts course (winter semester)

Contact hours with the teacher:

- participation in classes - 30 hrs

- consultations / feedback – 25 hrs

Self-study hours:

- preparation for classes - 20 hrs

- preparation of projects - 25 hrs

Altogether: 100 hrs (4 ECTS)

The student

W1: has in-depth knowledge of the connection of language studies, predominantly literary research, and desktop publishing and knows how editorial solutions and publication decisions affect a given literary text available on the book market (K_W08).

The student

U1: is able to combine English texts, graphics and multimedia, and to use his or her editorial solutions in order to prepare a digital publication (within English studies) by means of the DPS software (K_U08).

The student

K1: is capable of transferring a print publication into its digital format by means of the DPS software and is aware that such editorial processes are important in spreading knowledge about Anglophone literature and culture (K_K03);

K2: is aware of the possibilities and limitations of using graphic and textual material in the editorial and publishing processes and knows how to handle copyright issues in specific publication scenarios (K_K05).

The aim of the course is to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills concerning digital composition of English texts (combined with graphics) in the DPS software.

The course comprises exercises which aim at gaining knowledge and skills concerning use of editing and digital-publishing solutions in English text composition. Laboratory tasks include textual and graphic designs (for digital publications). The course will also comprise cover interactive pdf / fixed-layout publications by means of the DPS software. The students will learn how to launch digital publications.
