Skrócony opis:

The Seminar under the label of PRAGMATICS IN DISCOURSE ANALYSIS: Explorations in Linguistic Pragmatics: Issues of Meaning Construction in Semiotic/Textual Spaces is designed to integrate the students’ knowledge in functional realms of language use.

Depending on the ongoing pandemic situation the classes are scheduled in real-space classroom environment AND/OR (alternatively) through the mediation of on-line teaching sessions will be carried out with the support of the following distance learning tools: MICROSOFT TEAMS (is the basic tool for teacher centered and interactive sessions). In both modes USOS will provide the students with extra instructions, mini-lectures, comments and feedback, by means of e-mails and attachments sent to particular groups.

• The relations between structure vs. function in language.

• Structural levels of linguistic organization.

• The semantics v. pragmatics distinction.

• Language Variation: regional, social, stylistic, etc.

• Design features of language.

• Functions of language in various typologies.

• Textual criteria (constitutive principles).

• Conversation structure

• Cognitive Grammar: imagery, construals

• Cognitive Semantics: categorization, mappings selective projections

• Inferential processes: entailments, presuppositions, conversational implicatures.

• The Speech Act Theory (typology and felicity conditions).

• The Co-operation Principle and Conversational Maxims.

• The Relevance Theory.

The students will be assessed on the basis of attendance (on-line presence during distance-learning sessions or real-space contact sessions if the situation permits), on the basis of their aptitude resulting from regarding active engagement in the activities, on the basis of assignments sent on time according to ongoing instructions at particular stages of the course (worksheets and mini-essays), the final test or project, and/or the examination test if relevant.
