W2: possess knowledge about the methods of searching, securing, exploration and documentation techniques as well as research techniques, measurement methods, methods of estimating the value of selected traces and the principles of observing and documenting the results of field research

W6: - is familiar with the methods of analysis of the obtained evidence and the methods of its protection and storage on the way to the laboratory

U1: - is able to use the basic methods of searching in the field and exploring objects and securing the obtained evidence, and in situ research used in forensic proceedings

U7: has basic skills in the available equipment and sources of scientific information to the exploration, documentation and protection of objects and remains

The removal of human remains from the ground by forensic anthropologists should be carried out in accordance with all the principles of exploration and documentation. Thanks to the combination of forensic knowledge and the appropriate application of archaeological methods, the forensic anthropologist is able to contribute significantly to the success of the investigation. Lectures are intended to familiarize students in a practical way with the standard of exploration and documentation methods that should be used in forensic studies.

Students learn about the definitions and methodology of the following topics: search and prospection (including invasive and non-invasive methods, air and aquatic exploration, survey research, electrofusion method or GPR - ground-penetrating radar); exploration and field documentation (objects, burnt material, sites with extensive stratigraphy, microstratigraphy, places of mass crimes, measurement grids); taking and securing evidence. They become competent in common methods used both in archaeological research and forensic investigation, the difficulties and methods of exploration. They learn about the algorithms of proceeding in the case of taking human bone remains from various sites and get to know the basic methods of securing and preserving evidence obtained as a result of exploring various environments.

Students learn geophysical methods that enable the identification of the crime science, including the place where the human remains were deposed. They understand the methods of exploring and documenting both single graves (including inhumated and cremated), mass graves or crash sites (based on the real examples from anthropological and archeological practice). They also obtain basic information on the collection, preservation and storage of bone material.
