W02 - student has a thorough understanding of the principles and structures of the European system of the protection of human rights

W03 - student has knowledge concerning links between the European organizations in the domain of the protection of human rights, with special emphasis on the Council of Europe

W04 - student is familiar with the English language terminology concerning the topic;

W05 - student acquires knowledge concerning the idea of human rights and the significance their international protection;

W0 - student is familiar with the leading judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and their domestic impact

U02 - student is able to interpret the European standards in the domain of human rights protection and analyse the European instruments on the subject;

U06 - student can critically approach both the European normative standards and the case-law;

U09 - student is able deliver written comments concerning particular issues in the domain of the protection of human rights

K01 - student understands the importance of the European and international protection of human rights;

The course aims at providing a general outlook on the structure and basic principles of the European system of human rights

It includes the analysis of material, procedural and institutional arrangements of the European system of human rights, with particular emphasis on the Council of Europe. Other regional organizations and their role in the protection of human rights are also mentioned. The crucial part of the course covers the overview of the catalogue of human rights and freedoms enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights and the corresponding case-law of the European Court of Human Rights.

The lecturer will advise on the recommended literature and materials on the beginning of the course.
