MA SEMINAR IN LITERARY AND CULTURAL STUDIES (dr hab. Edyta Lorek-Jezińska) (2021/2022)

In the first year of the seminar students are introduced to selected concepts and theories employed in MA research and in the process of writing MA dissertations in the field of cultural and literary studies; the first semester of the seminar is devoted to the discussion of recent trends in the field of cultural and literary studies connected to the students' MA projects: the seminar might focus on such topics as intertextuality and adaptation, trauma, post-apocalypse, ecocriticism, transmedia and participatory culture, fan fiction, myth and fairy tale, madness and melancholia. In the second semester students will be expected to formulate their research problem within the field of literature or culture (or their practical applications), choose the method and theory, create a preliminary bibliography and begin writing their first chapter.

If online teaching is introduced at some point in the semester, the whole course will be taught on MS Teams both for seminars and individual meetings. Written assignments will be submitted on the Moodle platform.

Assessment criteria:

The final grade consists of the mark for:

MA research material presentation (30% of the final grade)

theory assignment (20% of the final grade)

MA research problem, detailed outline, expanded bibliography (20% of the final grade)

the draft version of 7-8 pages of MA thesis (30% of the final grade)
