Poznanie współczesnych standardów i implementacji podstawowych protokołów sieciowych używanych w warstwach modelu OSI: ICMP, IGMP, RIP, OSPF, MOSPF, DVMRP, BGP, IPv4, IPv6,TCP, UDP, BOOTP, DHCP.
Poznanie metod i narzędzi ochrony sieci lokalnej przed atakami pochodzącymi z sieci zewnętrznej i wewnętrznej ( protokoły IPSec, tunelowanie, filtrowanie pakietów, szyfrowanie w różnych warstwach sieciowych )
Poznanie metod i narzędzi służących do zarządzania urządzeniami sieciowymi (protokół SNMP)

Przedmiot ten może być zalecony przez komisję kwalifikacyjną jako przedmiot wyrównawczy uczestnikom studiów 2. stopnia, którzy nie osiągnęli efektów kształcenia tego przedmiotu w trakcie studiów 1. stopnia
