The course presents a general concept of the beginnings of human ludic activities, from early plastic arts and rituals to developing games, arts, and different ways of amusement. Discussion seminars cover several key points in culture and civilisation history, from the beginning of abstract thinking and the first cave paintings and sculptures, through proof of early music and dances, to the complete development of entertainment from sports and board games to a different way of spending spare time.

Bioarchaeology and anthropology (include osteology – science of bones) are a disciplines on the borderline of the natural sciences as biology and the humanities as archaeology and history. It deals with the history of the relationship between man and natural and cultural environment. In most base for research are bone remains (human and animals) discovered during archaeological excavations on different kind of sites. Analysis of bones (‘reading’ from bones) is one of the most important process during reconstruction of a history of man and past human populations.

The aim of the course is to present the main issues raised in philosophical aesthetics, referring to historical development of chosen ideas. During the seminar, the place of aesthetics as a part of epistemology will be presented together with the historical development of main categories (beauty and sublime, comedy and tragedy). Source texts and multimedia presentations will be used as a ground for discussions.

The aim of the course is introducing basic information about archival studies as a scientific discipline, as well as short history of archives (from a cultural perspective) and the archival landscape in Poland and, more specifically, in Toruń.

The main aim of the course is to get students familiar with the cultural diversity of ancient Greece especially the classical period. The students will get knowledge about architecture, crafts and art which flourished in classical Greek poleis. They will learn about the most famous and significant archeological sites and discovers which helped scholars to understand the world of ancient Greeks. The all issues concerned during the course will refer to the problem of impact of the ancient Greek culture on early modern and modern period.

The assumptions and objectives of the course. It will be the unique history; history torn out of the earth, history about the times of Nicolaus Copernicus. This is an attempt to reconstruct everyday life in Torun, during the 15th and 16th centuries, based on the analysis of archaeological monuments. Those objects were found during archaeological research in Toruń, mainly on properties, near tenement houses and around the church of St. James.

The topic of this lecture is the history of medieval and modern Ireland. The chronological range is from the early Middle Ages (Christianisation of Ireland) to the mid-19th century (the Great Famine). The lecture will present selected topics of history and culture from the history of Ireland, relatively often taken up in academic and popular science literature, drawing on historical sources and an overview of scholarly discussion and relevant contexts. The history and historiography of Ireland will be investigated against the comparative background of history of other European regions and countries.

Celem wykładu jest poznanie Włoch, w sposób wykraczający poza standardowe przekazy. Poznanie określonych regionów Włoch będzie połączone z omówieniem specyfiki okresu historycznego (jak w przypadku Florencji średniowiecznej walka o wpływy między papieżem a cesarzem). Określony okres będzie, z kolei, pretekstem do omówienia dzieł wybitnych twórców – jak np. Boskiej Komedii Dantego.

Celem wykładu jest wytworzenie kompetencji inter-dyscyplinarnych: między geografią, historią, kulturoznawstwem i osiągnięciami nauki.
