ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Learning outcomes - knowledge:

Student:

– W1: has basic knowledge of medieval architecture in Poland;

– W2: possesses knowledge on material culture citizens of Polish towns and convents (Toruń, Strzelno, Trzemeszno, Bygdoszcz, Gniewkowo).

Learning outcomes - skills:

Student:

– U1: is able to recognize archaeological data (for example: kitchen pottery, bath house and guest house);

– U2: can analyse and explain historical records for reconstruction the past in towns and monasteries.

Learning outcomes - social competencies:

Student:

– K1: understands the significance of archaeological excavations for reconstruction the past;

– K2: understands the need for interdisciplinary researches to recognize regional history and everyday life;

– K3: is prepared to interpretation of selected places on the past on the base of archaeological finds and written sources.

– discussion seminar assisted with multimedia presentations; introduction to each topic by a short lecture.

Short description:

Lectures will focus on the following topics: medieval churches and cemetery; Premonstratensian nunnery; romanesque and gothic architecture; kitchen pottery, tiles and stoves; suburbia and taverns; pottery workshop; bath house.

Full description:

Classes will focus on the following topics: Gniewkowo – outskirts in 15th–18th century; Bydgoszcz pottery workshop from about the end of 16th century (mass production: vessels; unique ceramic vessels; tiles and roofing tiles; medieval church of st. Jacob in Toruń; the equipment of the bath-house at the monastery of Canons Regular in Trzemeszno; the material culture of the Premonstratensian nunnery at Strzelno (the Romanesque period, the Gothic period, the Renaissance period, the Baroque period and the dissolution of the convent).

List of topics:

1. The material culture of the Premonstratensian nunnery at Strzelno in the light of archaeological excavations (12th–19th century).

2. Non omnis moriar. Burial wreaths in St. Jacobs church in Toruń graveyard.

3. Toruń – on medieval church of St. Jacobs. Archaeologist’ glosses.

4. The equipment of the bath-house at the monastery of Canons Regular in Trzemeszno.

5. In Gniewkowo outskirts in 15th–18th century.

6. Bydgoszcz pottery workshop from about the end of 16th century. Mass production and unique ceramic vessels.
