Brief description

The aim of the subject is to give students the basics in biochemistry and biotechnology of enzymes and biologically active substances, as well as methods and possibilities of their applications in cosmetic science and industry. Students will also gain knowledge concerning in vitro culture of animal and human cells and tissues, including their use as models in cosmetic science.

Brief description

The topic concerns current cosmetic trends related to natural cosmetics. It contains an overview of raw materials of plant origin, taking into account the biologically active substances they have. The lecture discusses the methods of processing plant materials and the rules of their nomenclature according to INCI. The chemical composition and properties of raw materials of plant origin are discussed in detail, as well as how they act on the skin, hair, and nails. It shows how to calculate safe amounts of raw materials in phytocosmetics recipes.

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic methods of obtaining polymers and copolymers used in cosmetics, determining their structure and molar masses, and showing the relationship between the structure and the physicochemical properties of the tested compounds. The goal is also to develop the ability to search and process information. The aim is to create the basis for students' independent thinking, leading to understanding the acquired chemical knowledge and using it in real life situations.

Aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the X-ray structural analysis of monocrystals, which allows the precise structure determination of small-molecular compounds and biomacromolecules. The aim of the course is to show the influence of UV radiation on the body and how to protect against the harmful effects of UV rays. The photoprotectans and compounds accelerating tanning will be presented. The relationship between the structure and function of the reagents will be discussed. Student will know how to evaluate and describe the effectiveness of the UV protection.
